98 Acres Resort and Spa gets its striking name from the land on which it has been built... a scenic tea estate on ninety-eight acres of land in fascinating Ella, Sri Lanka. The colonial era in Ceylon saw this tea estate being larger in extent, owned and managed by British planters and famously known as the ‘Southerland tea estate’.The plantation, while continuing to produce fine quality Uva, medium elevation Pure Ceylon Tea showed promise as an ideal location for an eco-friendly boutique hotel. The eco-friendly concept and design has ensured that the majorityof materials used in the construction have been recycled. ‘Illuk’ straw has been used liberally in the interior and thatching of the roofs to maintain cool temperatures, giving it a true Sri Lankan identity and elegance. Discarded railway sleepers have been put to good use in the construction of decks, walls and furniture. The furniture has been made by expert artisans from the locality using local and widely available timber which helps create a warm and rustic atmosphere. Rough hewn granite rock lends a simple, hand crafted elegance to the look and feel of each villa.
Standard Rooms
The standard rooms at 98 Acres Resort and Spa are bright and cheery, offering excellent views of the Ella Gap and Small Adam’s Peak mountain. Spend more time over breakfast in the spacious balcony and enjoy the views of the Ella mountain range. The titanium finished, polished cement floors offer a certain rustic element to each of the standard rooms that is truly Sri Lankan. The bathrooms are finished in rubble stone and include a separate traditional stone shower with hot and cold water. 98 Acres pool
The kids can use the baby pool while you do lap swimming in the adult pool. The pool has been elegantly constructed with a deck made of old railway sleepers. Gym and Spa A fully equipped gym and a spa that offers authentic treatments. A Helipad is located five to ten minutes away from 98 Acres Resort and Spa for guests who prefer to fly in. A helicopter picks up and drop off to and from the international airport is available but must be booked in advance. Helicopter tours including full day itineraries to many well-known attractions all over the country can be arranged by prior booking. There is also a well-equipped movie library and assorted board games.
